Bono ma podobno jutro wziąć udział w jednej z kolejnych prób do "Spider Mana" i pomóc w podjęciu decyzji o ewentualnym przełożeniu premiery.

http://www.atu2.com/...oming-soon.html

We already know that a Spider-Man CD is on the way later this year, but it looks like an EP of songs from the musical may be available sooner than that. Reeve Carney, who portrays Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the Broadway production, mentioned an EP last night on Twitter:

Back at the Foxwoods and ready to rock. Spidey style. Looking forward to the release of our SMTOTD EP in the coming weeks too :)

(Foxwoods is the theatre where Spider-Man is being performed; SMTOTD = Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark)

And this morning, also on Twitter, Steve Lillywhite (who was brought in to help with Spider-Man in January), mentioned some recording work that he's doing:

in the studio today recording finished Bono and Edge songs... first time I've done that since Boy!

As with the CD news earlier, we don't know if this refers to songs that Bono and Edge wrote or to songs that they've actually recorded for the upcoming release(s).

Meanwhile, Carney and two of his co-stars, Jennifer Damiano and T.V. Carpio, performed the song "Rise Above" Tuesday night on The Late Show with David Letterman. Right now, there's just this one video of the performance on YouTube. We'll update this if a better version comes along.

A major announcement could come as early as today regarding another opening delay and a possible three-week hiatus for an overhaul of the production. For the past few days, Bono has been involved in major negotiations regarding the future of Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, including decisions about the creative team behind the production. According to today's New York Daily News, Julie Taymor has left the musical: "Taymor, 58, has walked away from the show she co-wrote and worked relentlessly to bring to Broadway, a source close to the production said Tuesday night."

Speaking with Ticketmaster customer service representative, Randy, this morning, they are getting "bombarded" with phone calls from ticketholders asking for refunds. They are unable to issue any refunds or exchanges until the official announcement is made.

Julie Taymor out as 'Spider-Man' director as producers temporarily shut down Broadway musical
Producers of "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" are planning to temporarily shut down the troubled musical for a major overhaul, but the show will go on without star director Julie Taymor, the Daily News has learned.

Taymor, 58, has walked away from the show she co-wrote and worked relentlessly to bring to Broadway, a source close to the production said Tuesday night.

"Taymor is out. She's left the building," the source told The News.

Producers of the beleaguered $65 million play plan to shut down preview performances for two to three weeks to retool and hold new rehearsals, multiple sources told The News.

"I will say about these producers, they will do whatever it takes. They want a great show," a member of the production staff said Tuesday night. "When others would have given up, they will not."

Plans being worked out Tuesday also call for the show's official opening night at the Foxwoods Theatre, scheduled for Tuesday, to be postponed for three months, according to the sources.

The opening night for the musical, which puts on its 100th preview on Wednesday night, has already been delayed five times.

The show, featuring death-defying aerial stunts, has been plagued by injuries to cast members and constant tweaks to the book.

Rick Miramontez, spokesman for the show, refused to comment on the latest startling development. He insisted, "The opening night is still scheduled for March 15."

But sources said an announcement on the opening night pushback could come as early as Wednesday.

It was unclear Tuesday night if Taymor, a Tony Award-winning Broadway legend, quit or was fired.

Her departure also left Broadway insiders speculating whether lead actor Reeve Carney will stay with the show. Carney, 27, was handpicked by Taymor for the marquee role. Asked if he was staying with the show, Carney said, "Oh yeah.

"All the changes, so far, have been good for the show," Carney told The News. "We're just trying to make it the best it can be."

A lengthy shutdown would cost the show $1.3 million a week and cause it to miss out on any Tony Award nominations.

But it would enable the show, featuring the music of U2's Bono and The Edge, to officially open around June and seize on the summer tourist season, insiders said.

http://www.atu2.com/...his-summer.html

Spidey Gets Creative Re-Boot; Opens This Summer

It's official: Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark won't be opening on March 15 as scheduled (or... um... re-scheduled), but will instead begin regular performances in "early summer." No specific date was given.

Also, rumors that Director Julie Taymor would be leaving were apparently false ? she'll stay on, but they'll be adding Philip William McKinley and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to help implement new staging and book rewrites. They've also hired musical consultant Bogaev (Sunset Boulevard) and sound designer Peter Hylenski (Rock of Ages), who have been working on the show in recent days.

Bono and The Edge came to Taymor's defense saying, "Julie is a truly gifted and imaginative director. We are listening and learning and, as a result, we have a couple of new songs we are very very excited about putting into the mix. We are confident it will reach its full potential and when it does, it will open.?

Którego roku? :P

- Ilu członków U2 potrzeba, by zmienić żarówkę?

Nowa data premiery: 14. czerwca.
http://spidermanonbr...-announced.html

Lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris announced today that SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark has rescheduled its opening night for Tuesday, June 14, 2011. In addition, to allow rehearsal time for the new changes being implemented in the show, performances from Tuesday, April 19th to Wednesday, May 11th have been cancelled with preview performances resuming on Thursday, May 12th. This amended schedule will allow the time necessary to execute the plan, which will include revisions to the script.

As a result of the new opening night, the performances on June 12th, June 14th, and both performances on June 15th have been cancelled. Additional shows have been added on June 13th at 7:30 p.m. and June 17th at 2:00 p.m. All ticketholders for the cancelled performances who purchased their tickets through Ticketmaster or at the box office will be offered the option of exchanging or returning their tickets. Ticketholders who purchased through other outlets should contact the point of purchase for further information.

http://www.newsweek....al-villain.html

Spider-Man?s Real Villain
The musical disaster show has made Director Julie Taymor this season?s media Pi?ata. But could her departure unmask another culprit?

Given all the problems plaguing Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, it was probably inevitable that someone besides the actors would fall. Since previews of the $65 million (and counting) Broadway musical began last November, four performers have been injured, including Spidey himself, who went tumbling 30 feet into the pit, breaking four ribs and sustaining a hairline fracture to his skull. OSHA descended on the Foxwoods Theatre to investigate, and fined the producers $12,600.

All might have been excused had audiences and critics actually liked the show. But with reviews like ??Spider-Man? is not only the most expensive musical ever to hit Broadway; it may also rank among the worst? in The New York Times, somebody had to be blamed. So it wasn?t much of a shock when the show?s celebrated director, Julie Taymor?whose Lion King has grossed $4.5 billion in its 14-year-run?finally got her walking papers last week. With much schadenfreude (Taymor isn?t the easiest director to work with, as anyone will tell you), Broadway wags are predicting she?ll never work in this town again.

But has justice been served to the real villain of Spider-Man?

The score, created by U2?s Bono and the Edge, isn?t made up of catchy, easily digestible pop songs in the ?Hakuna Matata? vein. Even production sources admit to being mystified by what they describe as the joylessness of the music. ?With the promise of U2, why they don?t have this big kick-ass, pulse-racing number that sends people out on a cloud is a big, big question,? one person involved with the show says. ?And if Julie Taymor was standing in the way of that, she?s not anymore.?

When audiences walk out of Spider-Man, you don?t hear them singing show tunes. You hear their disapproval. ?You just don?t leave with a song in your head,? Suzy Fink of Chicago says after a recent performance. ?I?m a huge fan of U2, and I think my love affair just ended,? says a visibly angry JT Horenstein of New York. ?Did they not spend the time to create something melodic or memorable??

It?s a fair question to ask, given that Bono and the Edge were on tour for much of the production. ?Back in December or January, Julie begged everyone to close the show temporarily so that they could make changes,? says a source close to the production who is sympathetic to Taymor. ?The producers told her no. Bono and the Edge weren?t around. There was a clear breakdown in communication.? Neither Taymor, Bono, nor the Edge would comment for this story.

Rather inconveniently, by the time Bono and the Edge returned to work on the show about two weeks ago, Taymor was in California for a long-scheduled speaking commitment at the 2011 TED Conference. In her speech she explained that creating art regularly involves Sturm und Drang, and noted that Spider-Man?s theme song is ?Rise Above.? Her good friend Norman Lear, who was at the conference, saw behind the upbeat mask. ?She was suffering like crazy, she hated to be gone, Bono was seeing the show for the first time in months,? he says. ?She?s been put through hell, and to see her taking the blame all by her frail and brilliant self, isn?t it ridiculous??

Maybe so. What made her dismissal easy from a publicity standpoint was that she?s less famous than her collaborators and was coming off some major misfires in the film world. In 2007, Across the Universe, a musical created around the songs of the Beatles, tanked. And last fall her adaptation of Shakespeare?s The Tempest, starring Helen Mirren, earned back just $277,000 of its estimated $20 million budget.

?Julie is a poet, an obsessive, a charismatic leader, and a visionary, with the ego and fragility of all great artists,? says Mirren. ?Her commitment to work and collaborators is total.? Can the same be said of her Spider-Man collaborators?

Gwiazdy rocka pracują właśnie w taki sposób: miały być piosenki, no to macie piosenki, a teraz do miłego, bo mamy parę koncertów do zagrania i parę płyt do nagrania.

Bono & Edge Adding New Song for Spidey

Bono and Edge have written one new song for Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, and are making some other changes, too, while the production retools for the next several weeks. In an interview with Bloomberg news, co-producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris talk about what Bono and Edge have in store for Spider 2.0:

Boroff: There's a snippet of the U2 song "Vertigo" in the show. Have you discussed borrowing further from the U2 catalog?

Cohl: We have, but not with them! It's not going to happen. They've written a new song. They've changed some of the other songs to make them work better. They're working a lot on the other lyrics to make them flow better.

Boroff: What's the new song like?

Cohl: Talking rap meets rock.

Harris: It's the opening of the second act. It will be very theatrical.

Previews are scheduled to resume on May 12 and the new/current opening date is June 14.
